Stressing Out Your Transom is an article that I wrote for Bass & Walleye Boats magazine and their March 2001 issue. I defined many of the terms used in set-up and discussions about jackplates, bolts, setback, transom stress, and leverage. The research took me several evenings at the Clemson University Library along with several phone calls to bolt suppliers, boat companies, and a structural engineer for the physical properties and math behind the leverage variations. These were questions that I wanted answers for, but could not get them from the forums, magazines, or books. My mission was clear – Go find those answers for myself and others. I hope you’ll enjoy and share! Gordon
